From Malaga

When I think about London, the first thing that comes to mind is the English Breakfast. I must to confess, that dish wasn’t in my food bucket list. I always thought being an odd combination eat together sweet beans, mushrooms, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, eggs and potatoes.

Changing opinions in a cloudy morning.

My opinion was about to change in a spring cloudy morning. I was leaving the Hammersmith Station, and I saw an English Breakfast picture in front of The Swan Pub. ‘Ok, let’s try!’, I thought.

I got into the pub, and I sought a nice table close to the window. About fifteen minutes later – and after a pic – I had my first experience. In my opinion, that dish creates a somewhat unusual sensation of experiencing the different layers of tastes of one bite on my fork, one by one in my mouth.

The only word I could use to describe that moment was serendipity. When I was leaving the pub I decided, monthly I’d have that moment again, and maybe get the same feelings once more.

Two weeks later – because I realized that a month is a long time – I cooked my first English Breakfast at home. I had almost all ingredients, toast with butter and cheese, instead hash brown and scrambled eggs, not fried it.

What hassle!

I tried to make everything at the same time, ‘cause the idea was eat all hot and fresh.

1) In a tray I put slices of bread with butter and cheese to roast in the oven,

2) I grilled the mushrooms in a small pan,

3) I heated the beans in another pan,

4) I fried the bacon and sausage in the third pan, and

5) I made the scramble eggs in a frying pan.

Score: four pans and one tray to wash.

In the end, I was exhausted but the food was ready to eat. Delicious!

Let’s see if I have the guts to make it again!
